Chrysler Shutting Down Two More Plants After U.S. Sales Decline

Things aren’t looking so bright at Chrysler as the third largest U.S. automaker announced it will halt production for two weeks in two more plants following its fourth straight monthly decline in sales this September. According to Chrysler LLC spokesperson, David Elshoff, in addition to next week’s 14-day closure of the Belvidere plant in Illinois that makes the Dodge Caliber and the Jeep Patriot and Compass, the company will also idle production in the Toledo, Ohio, North Assembly and Newark, Delaware, factories starting on October 8. The Toledo North factory makes the Jeep Liberty and Dodge Nitro, while the Newark factory produces the Dodge Durango and Chrysler Aspen.
