“Rumor has it”… that Mercedes-Benz is readying a limited edition sports car named 300 SLC and German car magazine “Auto Motor & Sport” took upon the task of giving us a glimpse of how the supercar might look like via two renderings. From what we learnt, Mercedes has two potential design directions for the 300 SLC, a retro styling inspired from the iconic 300 SL Gullwing of the 50’s or a futuristic avant-garde look. AMS based the renderings on the assumption that Mercedes will give in to the retro look. In all, not bad but we’d gladly do without the “Porsche-like” headlights.

Codenamed R197, the SLC will share the basic technology (powertrains, axles and sub-systems) of the next generation SL that’s due in 2012. That means that the SLC will use a spaceframe based alloy construction and that it will be front engine and rear drive. According to AMS, the 300 SLC will be equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 Mercedes-AMG unit delivering around 620 Hp.
