Ford Reportedly Planning Smaller Pickup Trucks Including F-100

With consumers shifting their interest towards more fuel efficient vehicles as gas prices continue to rise, carmakers in the US (and not only) are rethinking their product line up. According to Detroit News, Ford on its behalf is planning to revamp its truck range with the addition of a smaller and lighter version of its once almighty F-150 along with a new global compact pickup that is currently under development in Australia.

According to source close to the matter, Ford’s new entry-level F-Series truck codenamed P525 will be based on a shortened version of the F-150 platform. Apart form being about 10 percent smaller than the F-150, it will also be significantly lighter due to the use of thinner-but-stronger steel in the frame and more aluminum in the body. -Continued

Along with the traditional V6 and V8 naturally aspirated motors, the P525 will also be offered with Ford’s all-new six-cylinder EcoBoost engine that combines turbo-charging and direct fuel-injection to deliver power and towing capacity comparable to that of a V8 motor while consuming far less fuel.
