Palm Beach Police Ban Idling Patrol Cars…

In an attempt to cut down on the Palm Bay Police Department's fuel budget which totalled $560,000 in 2007, Florida authorities are banning officers from idling their patrol cars. Yep, no air-condition for cops – if anyone’s been to Florida you know what that means… According to Police officials, if an officer repeatedly violates the new internal law, it could result in an officer having take-home car privileges suspended. -Continued

Aside from being totally inhumane to keep anyone in a car without air condition in a State like Florida, we wonder how much gas/money this measure will save the department. And if they are so worried about rising gas prices, well then maybe its time to do away with those gas guzzling Crown Victorias.
