Volkswagen’s Small Car Platform Gets All-Wheel-Drive

The German automaker’s new small car platform codenamed “PQ25” that made its debut in the new Seat Ibiza earlier this year offers the possibility of all-wheel drive (AWD) option according to Erich Schmitt, president of Seat. Although VW Group’s Spanish division will not offer an AWD option for its new Ibiza, several other models that will be based on the PQ25 platform will. -Continued

Apart from the all-new Audi A1 that’s expected in 2009, the next generation version of the Volkswagen Cross Polo that will also be introduced in 2009 will also be offered with an all-wheel-drive system. The current Cross Polo (pictured above) which is virtually a crossover version of the 5-door subcompact hatch, is available exclusively in front-wheel drive format.
