Thanks to an avid Carscoop reader, we now have the first official photographs of the all-new BMW X6M that is set to make its world premiere along with the more spacious X5M at the New York Auto Show on April 9. BMW M Division's first ever attempt on an SUV / Crossover as well as, on an all-wheel drive model, is powered by a new 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that churns a swaggering 550HP. The same engine will also equip the X5M and from what we've been told by our inside sources, the next-generation M5 Sedan / Touring and M6 Cabriolet / Coupe cars.
We don't have all the details yet, but the 550HP V8 should allow both the X5M and X6M to accelerate from standstill to 100km/h or 62mph well under the 5.0 second mark. Comparatively, the current X6 xDrive50i which is powered by a 4.4-liter twin turbocharged V8 with 408HP sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.
Other mechanical modifications should include brake and steering wheel system upgrades along with a stiffer and sportier suspension set up.
On the outside, BMW's M division treated the X6M with a sportier bodykit that includes new bumpers, side air-vents or if you prefer, gills, five-spoke alloy wheels and a set of quad exhaust tail pipes. In the cabin, the X6M features sport seats, a new steering wheel and revised instrument panel. Stay tuned on Carscoop as we'll have more on both the X6M and its X5M counterpart.
