New VW CrossGolf: Facelifted Version of MPV-SUV Mishmash to Premiere in Geneva

The sixth-variant of Volkswagen's Golf family, the redesigned CrossGolf, will make its world debut alongside the new CrossPolo, Polo GTI and Touareg SUV at the German firm's Geneva Motor Show stand in March. Similarly to the CrossPolo, VW's new compact crossover is basically a higher-riding version of the facelifted Golf Plus kitted out to look more rugged. And no, it is not offered with all-wheel drive as all CrossGolfs keep the standard model's front wheel drive configuration.

Cosmetic changes over the previous model include the new fascia that follows the new Volkswagen "Design DNA", restyled front and rear bumpers and protective body cladding plus revised tail lamps and new alloy wheel designs.

The crossover model's interior has been upgraded with a newly styled instrument panel, three-spoke steering wheel and sport seats while we also find new decorative trim and upholstery colors.

The five-door model that rides 20 mm higher than the standard Golf Plus will be offered with a revised engine lineup comprising exclusively of direct-injection turbocharged petrol (TSI) and diesel (common rail TDI) units.

The gasoline range includes a 1.2-liter TSI with 105HP and a 1.4-liter TSI with 122HP and 160HP , while diesel options are limited to a 105HP 1.6-liter TDI and a 140HP 2.0-liter TDI.

With the exception of the 105HP 1.2 TSI, all other engines may be combined with VW's dual-clutch DSG transmission. For the petrol engines and the 105HP 1.6 TDI, the 7-speed version of the DSG is used while the 140HP 2.0 TDI gets a 6-speed variant.

The facelifted CrossGolf will go on sale in most markets in Europe in April.
