SPY VIDEO: 2011 BMW 6-Series Convertible with Less Camouflage

As we approach closer to the launch date of the new BMW 6-Series, we're seeing less camouflage on the prototype models. Caught on film here in and around the Nurburgring circuit, are two test cars of the upcoming 6-Series Convertible.

The next 6er Convertible follows the recipe of today's model, with a cloth top and seating for 2+2. However, it gets sharper (and less controversial) looks with styling cues lifted directly from the recently revealed Concept Gran Coupe. We haven't had the chance yet to get a look of the interior yet, but expect to see a fresh styling with bits and pieces borrowed from the recently-launched 5-Series.

Under the skin, the new 6-Series is based on the latest generation 5-Series underpinnings and will share a similar engine lineup. That means rear-wheel drive along with a choice of straight-six petrol and diesel and twin-turbo V8 petrol engines linked to either manual or 8-speed automatic transmissions.

The range will top out with the M6 model powered by an M-division prepped twin-turbo V8. In the X5M and X6M, this engine delivers 555HP and 680Nm or 501-lbs/ft of peak torque, however, it is believed that in the next M5 and M6 Coupe / Convertible models, output will be closer to the 600HP mark.

Both the 6-Series Coupe and Convertible are set to go on sale in the first-half of 2011. There's also been talk about a sedan variant of the 6-Series based on the Concept Gran Coupe, which will compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Audi A7 Sportback.
