2011 Chevy Caprice PPV gets Stealthy Detective Package

More details about GM's 2011 Chevrolet Caprice police car have been made public through the release of the official technical manual. Skipping the parts on the standard police-spec Caprice that we've already showed you in detail, the manual provides our first look at the "Detective Package". Aside from the stealthy black finish, police departments can also choose from six more colors.

We remind you that the Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV) is based off the Australian market Holden Statesman / Caprice series, which itself is a more luxurious, long-wheelbase version of the Commodore that was sold in the States as the Pontiac G8.

When it becomes available to police forces across the U.S. early next year, the rear-wheel drive Caprice PPV will be offered exclusively with a 6.0-liter V8 engine pushing out an estimated 355HP and 384 lb-ft of torque, hooked up to a six-speed automatic transmission. However, General Motors plans to offer a smaller V6 engine as well from 2012.

The Caprice PPV's chief rival will be the all-new Ford Taurus Police Interceptor that will be offered in front- and all-wheel drive configurations and either a naturally aspirated 263HP V6 or a force-fed V6 churning out 365-horsepower.
